Online vs. In-Person California CCW Training: Which Option Fits You?
Online or in person? Choose the California CCW training format that fits how you learn. At 559CCW, online lessons offer scheduling flexibility, while classroom instruction gives you time to learn directly with Paco and ask questions as topics come up.
Online CCW training: study around your schedule
If work, family, or an unpredictable schedule makes classroom attendance difficult, online training lets you study from your phone, tablet, or computer. Progress saves automatically, so you can pause and return to your lessons.
This option works well if you are comfortable studying independently and keeping yourself on track. You can still contact 559CCW when you have questions.
In-person CCW classes: learn through discussion
Classroom instruction may suit you if you prefer demonstrations, conversation, and immediate answers. You can hear other students’ questions and work through topics with an instructor.
Our initial classroom option is hybrid: eight hours in Sanger plus eight hours of online coursework. The California & Arizona option follows the same eight-hour classroom and eight-hour online format, with training for both permits. In-person renewal training is available separately.

Which CCW training format should you choose?
Choose online if you want to study around work and family, take breaks between lessons, and return to material at your own pace. Choose the classroom option if you learn more easily through demonstrations, discussion, and asking questions in person. Choose hybrid if you want classroom interaction while completing part of your initial training online.
Online lessons still require in-person qualification
After the classroom requirements, you complete live-fire qualification. Local 559CCW students qualify at Fresno Rifle & Pistol Club in the Clovis area. Your completion or booking instructions explain when to attend and what to bring.
If you are new to firearms, tell us about your experience before enrolling so we can help you identify an appropriate starting point.
Questions about choosing your CCW course
Can I complete my California CCW training entirely online?
You can complete the classroom portion online. Live-fire qualification takes place in person, after your classroom requirements are complete.
What is the difference between initial and renewal training?
Initial training is for first-time California CCW applicants and requires 16 hours. Renewal training is for current permit holders and requires eight hours. Choose the course that matches your application.
How long do I have to finish the online initial course?
You have 90 days to complete the 559CCW online initial course. Plan your study time and qualification appointment around your issuing agency’s application deadlines as well.
When will I receive my training certificate?
Your certificate is issued after you complete both the classroom coursework and the in-person live-fire requirements. Finishing the online lessons alone does not complete the course.
Is the range-use fee included in the online course price?
The online initial and renewal course prices include live-fire qualification with 559CCW. Fresno Rifle & Pistol Club charges a separate $28.50 range-use fee. Check your booking instructions for current fees and payment details.
